Trackside fire near Clapham Junction cripples London Victoria services and leaves Gatwick Airport passengers stranded all day

A trackside blaze near Clapham Junction on Sunday night destroyed signalling equipment on the London Victoria route, leading National Rail to declare "major disruption" through until 4pm. Southern and Gatwick Express passengers face delays of up to 60 minutes, with cancellations and diversions in place and only an "extremely reduced" service running through the morning. Travellers are strongly advised to avoid Victoria entirely and use alternative terminals, with tickets accepted at no extra cost on Underground, Overground and bus services. A separate signal failure at Brixton is also causing severe disruption on the Victoria line, adding to the wider chaos.
Footage from the scene shows firefighters tackling signalling equipment that was destroyed overnight.
The only service currently operating is a half-hourly shuttle between Victoria and East Croydon, which is expected to be 'extremely busy'.
Severe delays on the DLR at Bank are compounding what is already a chaotic Monday morning commute across the capital.
