Former trainee police officer Robert Veza, 45, has walked free from Sheffield Crown Court with a 16-month sentence suspended for 18 months after admitting misconduct in a public office over his pursuit of a vulnerable woman he had been assigned to support. Veza first contacted the Sheffield woman, who has mental health problems, in 2023 after she reported a crime.

Victim exposed him herself, writing to a senior South Yorkshire Police officer about his repeated home visits.

'Inexcusable': DC Gary Godwin says there is 'no place in South Yorkshire Police for people like him'.

Force vows to root out officers, staff or volunteers abusing their power, whether financial, sexual or prejudice-driven.
