Melania Trump's ceasefire in the occupied Ukrainian city of Oleshky holds for 30 hours without a single incident
Devastation in Russian-occupied Oleshky, where a local ceasefire took effect at 3am to clear the way for an aid mission for the 6,000 people, including 200 children, trapped and desperately short of food and medicine.
Ukraine's human rights commissioner Dmytro Lubinets confirmed on Wednesday that 30 hours of the Melania Trump-brokered ceasefire around Russian-occupied Oleshky had passed without a single incident. About 2,000 civilians remain trapped in the city, where food, water and medicine have run perilously low after months of siege conditions. The six-day truce began at 3am Tuesday and has spread calm across the Dnipro River to Ukrainian-held Kherson, where residents ventured outside for the first time in months.
Residents fear Russia will reroute evacuees to occupied Crimea or Russia itself rather than Ukrainian-controlled territory.
Putin described Oleshky as a 'Russian settlement' in Tuesday's 90-minute call with European leaders, despite it being internationally recognised as Ukrainian soil.
Zelensky has revealed that full Russia-Ukraine peace talks could follow as soon as 10 November in Abu Dhabi, with Trump saying a three-way summit with Putin will happen 'very soon'.
