Travis Perkins shares fall as construction slump and economic uncertainty drag on sales for a third quarter

Travis Perkins has reported a 1.6% drop in revenue for the three months to 30 September, with like-for-like sales down 1.3%, as weak demand in the UK construction sector — particularly new-build housing — continues to bite. The share price slid to nearly 3% below the open at its worst point, recovering to close around 1.5% down. Chief executive Gavin Slark said the firm is focused on cost discipline and protecting profitability despite what he called "volume headwinds". Full strategy detail is expected at preliminary results in March 2027.

Travis Perkins' core Merchanting business was hardest hit, with like-for-like volumes plunging 9.0% in the quarter.

Toolstation UK was the sole bright spot, posting 3.6% like-for-like revenue growth with further store openings planned for 2027.

The group's Toolstation Benelux arm is struggling, with like-for-like revenue down 4.7% as a strategic review continues.
