Treasury entrepreneurship adviser quits days before Healey's Budget, warning ministers treat founders as 'a bit of a sideshow'

Alex Depledge says she has had 'barely any face time' with Chancellor John Healey, after fortnightly meetings with his predecessor Rachel Reeves. She will leave on Thursday, the day after his maiden Budget on Wednesday. Depledge, 45, warns Britain has just 18 months to back its scale-ups or be left behind for good. She says she had to 'relitigate all the arguments I had already won'.

On first arriving at the Treasury, she said, 'it was like organ rejection'.

Ex-Bank of England economist Andy Haldane warns of a 'Liz Truss-style' market meltdown.

Depledge founded Hassle.com, sold to a German rival for €32m.
