Ian Haggis, known as the 'Flying Haggis', was a former air taxi and air ambulance pilot who began his career instructing RAF scholarship students. The Piper Tomahawk II left Glasgow Airport at 4.17pm on Friday and stopped transmitting 20 minutes later near Drymen. One mourner wrote: 'What a legend. Only God knows what happened.'

Joseph Thompson, a friend who had been due to fly with Haggis this week, paid tribute.

The two-seater is around 45 years old and is registered to Leading Edge Flight Training.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch has sent a team to the crash site near Drymen.
