Storms Boelo and Austen together cut power to 838,700 UK properties over the weekend.Rain falling across the entire United Kingdom as Storm Boelo bombs out over the North Atlantic, the storm that — combined with Austen — knocked out power to 838,700 UK properties over the weekend.
Richard Baines, 60, was struck at about 10.30am on Sunday while out walking near his home outside Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway. His fieldwork across China, Vietnam and the Canary Islands led to the discovery of seven plant species previously unknown to science. A man in his 20s also died when a tree landed on his car in Finchley, north London. Fresh yellow wind warnings cover much of Scotland into Tuesday.
Horticulture director David Knott said Baines was 'a very genuine and warm human being'.
Baines coined the phrase 'Scotland's most exotic garden' for Logan, where he worked for 14 years.
Which? voted Logan the best garden in the UK in 2021 under his stewardship.
