Tributes pour in for 'beautiful' mother-of-two, 59, who was swept out to sea while walking her dog during Storm Boelo
Sal Galloway, who was struck by a wave and swept into the sea on the Isle of Wight's coastal path between Sandown and Shanklin during Storm Boelo, leaving her dog unharmed.
Sal Galloway, 59, a mother of two from the Isle of Wight, was engulfed by powerful waves on the promenade between Sandown and Shanklin at around 11.15am on Monday as Storm Boelo battered the coast with winds reaching the low 80s mph. A major operation involving Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 375 from Lee-on-Solent, Bembridge RNLI's all-weather lifeboat and paramedics recovered her body south of Sandown Pier shortly after midday. Friends remembered her as someone who 'always had time for everyone', with one cousin writing: 'Fly high my darling.'
Her dog survived the incident; a file is now being prepared for the coroner.
Storm Boelo struck back-to-back with Storm Austen, which partially collapsed Brighton's West Pier and cut power to nearly 7,000 homes.
Isle of Wight Council urged residents to exercise extreme caution near beaches, sea walls and exposed coastal paths following her death.
