President Donald Trump paused his Daytona Beach, Florida rally on Friday to dip a napkin in a cup of water and wipe his eye, telling the crowd: 'Do you mind? I got a thing in my eye — watch this.' The moment, roughly an hour into the event, landed under intense scrutiny days before Tuesday's midterm elections that will decide control of Congress.

Trump pre-empted health questions himself, joking: 'I wish I had little eye drops, but if I did, they'd say I was seriously ill.'

The rally came after Trump abruptly cancelled weekend events in Kansas and Iowa before reinstating both; he is now expected to visit the states on Sunday.

On Thursday, Trump told a Reuters reporter who asked if he cancelled a rally because he was tired: 'You are disgusting. Put yourself in shape. You look like hell.'
