Trump announces that Audi will build a $4.2bn car factory in Georgia, crediting his tariffs at a midterm rally

Audi says the plant near Macon will make 200,000 of its biggest SUVs a year and create about 4,500 jobs. 'Without tariffs, they would not have been coming in,' President Donald Trump told the crowd in Perry. Audi chief Gernot Döllner joined him on stage to call it 'a long-term investment'. Audi says construction is due to begin in 2027, with full production not expected until 2031.
It will be Audi's first US factory. The brand currently imports every US car from Europe or Mexico.
Trump's 25 per cent tariffs on foreign vehicles have been hammering Volkswagen's US sales.
Trump told Audi: 'We can do something with you because you're building your cars in the United States.'
