Trump defies judge and says historic Washington golf course will close for 15 months of renovations from November 15

Around 430 trees were felled at East Potomac Golf Course over a single weekend, prompting US District Judge Ana Reyes to condemn the work as 'inexcusable'. Following Trump's post, she gave the government until 8pm Sunday to confirm whether its plans remained 'preliminary'. An emergency hearing has been set for Monday. The DC Preservation League has filed suit against the administration, which is simultaneously seeking to have Reyes removed from the case.

Trump described the existing course as 'old, broken, dilapidated' and full of 'disease infested trees'.

Architect Tom Fazio is to redesign it to host the US Open and the Ryder Cup.

Trump's Truth Social announcement made no mention of the court challenge.
