Trump defies judge's order and vows to close historic Washington golf course for 15 months of renovations
US District Judge Ana Reyes responded within hours, ordering the government to tell her by 8pm whether its plan was still 'preliminary'. President Donald Trump says work at East Potomac Golf Course will begin on November 15. Last week Reyes halted tree removal after some 430 trees were felled over the Columbus Day weekend. She branded that work 'inexcusable'.
Trump called the 106-year-old course 'old, broken, dilapidated, and of no further use'.
His administration is now pushing for Judge Reyes to be replaced on the case.
Trump says the course will be built to host the US Open and the Ryder Cup.
