Trump demands New Mexico 'immediately' change its name to 'New America', claiming home values and incomes would rise
President Donald Trump also took aim at the state's 'Crooked Elections', claiming a new name might make them 'honest again'. He made the Truth Social demand just days before the midterm elections. Democratic Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has called his push a distraction from price hikes linked to the Iran war. Even a New Mexico Republican has now rejected the idea.
Trump cannot rename the state himself, because its name is written into New Mexico's Constitution.
Last month he posted an AI video of himself slapping an 'America' label on a state sign.
Lujan Grisham hit back: 'While the White House wastes time coloring on maps, Nuevo México is busy doing the work.'
