Musk proposed Ukraine Starlink slowdown to Trump, who agreed, as bipartisan senators demand Pentagon answers

Elon Musk reportedly approached President Trump with the idea of throttling Ukraine's Starshield satellite speeds during the Trump-Zelenskyy energy ceasefire row — and Trump reportedly agreed, with the Pentagon then executing the order. The slowdown left Ukrainian drones unable to travel above 100 mph, and Russian missiles pounded Kyiv in one of the deadliest bombardments of the war. Trump told reporters on Friday he had nothing to do with it and doubted Musk was involved, saying he was not sure the slowdown "ever came down."

Both Trump and Musk were reportedly involved in the decision — directly contradicting Trump's claim that neither he nor Musk caused the outage.

Bipartisan senators including Susan Collins and John Cornyn wrote to the Pentagon inspector general demanding an investigation, warning US personnel could not reach bunkers during Russian air raids.

Ukraine has no quick replacement for Starshield — experts warn its next best hope is Amazon's Leo satellite network, owned by Jeff Bezos, another billionaire with White House ties.
