Trump dodges question on endorsing JD Vance for 2028 as the vice president stands right behind him
Donald Trump and JD Vance as Trump stopped short of endorsing his vice president for 2028, saying the two had never discussed it.
Only a day earlier, Vice President JD Vance had told journalist Mark Halperin he believed President Donald Trump would back him if he ran. At a Tuesday Oval Office event, Trump instead cut off a reporter and said: 'I don't think we've ever talked about it.' Vance chimed in: 'No, sir, I said that too.' Trump insisted it was 'very early' and the midterms had to come first.
Trump praised Vance as 'a very talented person' but stopped short of backing him.
Vance had admitted he was unsure of an endorsement 'right out the gate'.
Vance currently leads polling for the 2028 Republican nomination.
