Republican senator Lisa Murkowski says the DOJ 'should never have filed' Trump-ordered suit to block the Alaska Senate result

The Justice Department is asking a federal court to stop Alaska certifying its Senate race if Republican Dan S. Sullivan loses narrowly to Democrat Mary Peltola. Its target is Daniel J. Sullivan, a retired Petersburg teacher on the same ballot whom Donald Trump has branded an 'imposter'. Trump has said he ordered the lawsuit himself. Peltola's campaign has hit back in court, calling it an 'unprecedented pre-emptive strike' on democracy.

Peltola's filing: 'Alaskans must elect Senator Dan S. Sullivan or the President will not let them.'

Veteran Republican lawyer Ben Ginsberg called the suit 'a real desperation play'.

Voters and Common Cause are using Trump's own words to seek dismissal.
