President Donald Trump urged Karoline Leavitt, then press secretary, to move reporters out in front of senior aides in late August, calling it her 'last legacy'. The plan stalled before she stepped down on August 27. Now the advisers who once argued for keeping journalists close have thinned out. Reporters would most likely be moved across the street to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

Housing finance chief Bill Pulte reportedly produced a foam board mock-up of the pool.

Trump posted a gold-trimmed 'FDR Pool' image replacing the 'Fake News' briefing room.

FDR installed the pool in 1933 to ease his polio, and Nixon covered it for reporters.
