Trump plans to deport about 150 Afghans to the Taliban via Pakistan, including families of men who served with US forces

A flight could depart as early as Monday, routed through Pakistan because Washington has no diplomatic ties with the Taliban and cannot arrange direct deportations to Afghanistan. Aid organisations warn the passengers include relatives — brothers and sons — of men who fought alongside US forces and are therefore already Taliban targets, along with at least one LGBTQ+ person who faces execution.

The administration cancelled Temporary Protected Status for over 11,000 Afghans, claiming security under Taliban rule had improved.

A separate deportation flight returning Iranian political dissidents to Iran is also being prepared, the first since the US war with Iran began in February.

AfghanEvac chief Shawn VanDiver warned Congress must pass emergency legislation granting Afghans temporary protected status or risk sending allies' families to their deaths.
