Trump's £7.5bn defamation lawsuit against the BBC could be thrown out unless he hands over documents, US judge warns

Donald Trump faces dismissal of his $10 billion defamation suit against the BBC unless he hands over outstanding discovery materials by a court-imposed November 23 deadline.

Magistrate Judge Enjolique Lett has given Trump until 23 November to hand over the relevant records, warning that failure to comply could result in sanctions — up to and including outright dismissal of the case. The suit centres on the BBC's editing of a 2024 Panorama documentary about the US Capitol riots, with Trump seeking $10bn in damages.

The BBC accused Trump of flouting disclosure rules, warning the court it would suffer 'extreme prejudice' if he kept ignoring his obligations.

Trump's legal team had previously agreed to turn over the disputed documents, making the ongoing delay increasingly difficult to defend before the judge.

Trump must also compile a privilege log — identifying any withheld documents — by 5 November or risk further sanctions.
