US Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins is accused of racism over a 'SNAP fraudster' Halloween costume post warning benefit thieves

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins marked Halloween by posting a mock Spirit Halloween costume on X on October 31 featuring Atlanta influencer Mercedes Reshard New — known as Shawty Dred — labelled a "SNAP FRAUDSTER," depicted with "fake grills," an EBT card and handcuffs. Rollins wrote: "Some costumes come with a price tag. This one comes with a prison sentence." New was indicted this month on federal charges tied to a scheme in which she allegedly used more than 350 fraudulent accounts built on stolen identities to pocket over $4 million in SNAP benefits.
Journalist Mehdi Hasan called it "insane white supremacy" and "open brazen racism from Trump cabinet members."
Democratic Rep. Shontel Brown called the post "despicable" and "disgusting," warning Rollins to expect questions before the Agriculture Committee in January.
Rollins fired back, telling critics on the left to "read about Shawty Dred" before calling her out.
