President Trump inadvertently exposed a Jos. A. Bank label on his navy suit jacket as he danced to 'Y.M.C.A.' at the end of his Grand Island, Nebraska midterm rally — moments after boasting he was bringing manufacturing back to American soil. Menswear writer Derek Guy, editor of Put This On, spotted the tag in a photograph and confirmed Jos. A. Bank suits are typically made overseas, in countries including China and Bangladesh. The brand does carry an American-made line under the Joseph Abboud label, but Trump's tag clearly identified his suit as the imported Jos. A. Bank option. Guy wrote: 'I wonder why Trump chose the cheap import over the US-made suit.'
Trump had worn Italian luxury brand Brioni since his 'Apprentice' days — the switch to an off-the-rack mall brand stunned fashion observers.
Online reactions compared Trump's choice to Joe Biden, a longtime Jos. A. Bank fan, with some joking the switch signals a recession.
Guy noted Trump could have worn the American-made Joseph Abboud label from the same parent company, Tailored Brands — but didn't.
