One of 28 'green card' holders charged in California voter fraud bust says 'nobody told me' he couldn't vote

Kamlesh Shah, 67, an Indian national from Sacramento, allegedly registered and voted on the same day at the November 2024 election. He said the election officer 'just asked for my ID and my number'. Eleven people have been arrested under 'Operation Protect the Vote'. The Justice Department is suing to stop California counting mail ballots from about 20,000 suspected non-citizens.

Acting Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter said California refused to set those ballots aside.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta called the fraud '.0001%' of voters and 'isolated'.

One defendant's lawyer said: 'This is the first time I've ever seen this type of charge.'
