Trump's DOJ faces bipartisan resistance and legal setbacks as administration uses federal power to intervene in ongoing elections
The suit, filed on Thursday in federal court in Alaska, hinges on Republican Senator Dan Sullivan sharing the ballot with another candidate named Daniel Sullivan. It seeks to block certification if the senator loses to Democrat Mary Peltola. Todd Blanche insisted on Saturday the department is not trying to stop certification. He is due on 'Face the Nation' and 'State of the Union' on Sunday.
Blanche refused to rule out intervening in certification in a 'doomsday scenario'.
Alaska's Supreme Court had already cleared both Sullivan names for the ballot.
Democracy Defenders Fund co-founder Norm Eisen branded the case 'a dead loser'.
