Trump's Justice Department charges ex-FBI chief James Comey for a THIRD time, accusing him of leaking classified information
Maurene Comey, whose sacking from her federal prosecutor's post Judge Jesse Furman ruled breached the Administrative Procedure Act and her Fifth Amendment rights, has been awarded back pay and ordered reinstated.
Prosecutors brought two Espionage Act counts against James Comey through a 'criminal information', skipping a grand jury entirely. The Justice Department says the filing pauses a ten-year limitation clock that was about to run out. The case centres on an October 2016 Times story about Yahoo tweaking its spam filter for FBI surveillance. Comey's lawyer Patrick Fitzgerald insists the matter is time-barred.
Comey: 'It would almost be funny' if it weren't 'an appalling abuse' of the DOJ.
The charges were unsealed hours after a judge ruled his daughter Maurene was unlawfully fired.
Comey also faces an April indictment over a seashell photo spelling '86 47'.
