Trump's Justice Department sues to block Alaska's Senate result if Republican Dan Sullivan loses, and Trump says he ordered it
President Donald Trump has told reporters he ordered the case himself: 'I'm the one that said do it.' The Justice Department wants certification halted if Senator Dan S. Sullivan loses narrowly to Democrat Mary Peltola. It blames Dan J. Sullivan, a retired Petersburg teacher on the same ballot. Peltola called the suit 'a desperate attempt to silence Alaskans.'
Alaska's Supreme Court cleared both Sullivans for the ballot back in June.
Peltola's campaign calls the case an 'unprecedented pre-emptive strike on democratic elections.'
Bush election lawyer Ben Ginsberg: 'They are scraping the bottom of the barrel.'
