Trump made the remarks to reporters at a Halloween party at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, offering Flavio Bolsonaro an open-ended welcome after the 45-year-old senator fled Brazil despite a court order barring him from travelling abroad. Bolsonaro, who lost to left-wing incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva by over four million votes, has refused to concede and declared himself "the elected president."

Bolsonaro fled through Argentina, then Ecuador, before arriving in Miami on a private jet; White House aide Jason Miller reportedly arranged the flight.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio denied US involvement, telling reporters at the G20 foreign ministers' meeting in Atlanta: 'We didn't facilitate anything.'

Bolsonaro's father Jair did the same after losing to Lula in 2022 and is now serving a 27-year sentence for attempting a coup.
