Republican senator Lisa Murkowski says Trump's Justice Department 'should never have filed' its lawsuit to halt Alaska's Senate result

President Donald Trump told reporters 'I'm the one that said do it' about the suit, filed just 12 days before polling day. It seeks to block certification if Senator Dan S. Sullivan narrowly loses to Democrat Mary Peltola. The target is Daniel J. Sullivan, a retired Petersburg teacher on the same ballot. Peltola called the move 'a desperate attempt to silence Alaskans'.

Democrats' filing: Alaskans 'must elect Senator Dan S. Sullivan' or elect 'no one at all'.

Republican lawyer Ben Ginsberg said the DOJ is 'scraping the bottom of the barrel'.

Alaska's Supreme Court cleared both Sullivans for the ballot back in June.
