Amanpour to go off air next June and says 'a few sleepless nights' preceded her CNN exit, after 43-year tenure ends amid Trump ally's takeover
The 68-year-old chief international anchor confirmed she will leave the network next June, revealing that 'a few sleepless nights' preceded her decision to 'separate' from CNN, with a parting line that appeared aimed at Trump-friendly billionaire David Ellison's impending takeover. CNN chairman Mark Thompson told staff the pair had discussed her exit for months. Her statement made no mention of her cancer, which returned in October 2025.
Amanpour joined CNN in 1983 as a desk assistant at its Atlanta headquarters.
She made her name covering the fall of the Berlin Wall and the 1991 Gulf War.
Thompson told colleagues he was 'very sorry to see her go'.
