Trump says Utah judge is 'desecrating' Charlie Kirk's memory as accused killer's lawyers seek to push trial to 2029
President Donald Trump said the trial should take a month, not years, as he turned on the judge overseeing the case. Tyler Robinson's defence team wants a tentative start in the third quarter of 2029. Prosecutors have proposed 31 January 2028 for a 17-week trial. Erika Kirk's lawyers branded the defence plan 'absurd' and are demanding the earliest possible date in 2027.
Kirk's lawyer: the children face the trial 'longer than they had their father in their lives.'
Robinson's defence has already cost taxpayers about $1.6 million in its first year.
Robinson's lawyers insist a firm date now creates 'false precision' because 'death is different.'
