Kremlin praises Trump's 'historic' waiver of Russia sanctions passed by Congress days before they were due to take effect

Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev called the suspension of the Graham Act 'an important and truly historic moment'. President Donald Trump signed the executive order on Friday night, citing the 'national interest'. The law would have hit Russian banks, oligarchs and the shadow fleet of tankers. It also allowed tariffs of up to 100 per cent on the top five buyers of Russian oil and gas.

The waiver comes a week after Trump agreed to buy diesel from Russia.

Senator Richard Blumenthal accused Trump of 'sucking up to Vladimir Putin'.

Former Republican aide Gregg Nunziata called it 'a final dishonor for Senator Graham'.
