Tsunami warning is issued after two powerful earthquakes strike within minutes off the coast of Vanuatu

The first tremor hit at 3.31am BST on Saturday and was initially measured at magnitude 7.2 before the US Geological Survey revised it down to 6.9. A second quake of magnitude 6.3 followed four minutes later, both striking just 10km deep north-west of Port-Olry. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said dangerous waves could hit shores within 300km. No damage or injuries have yet been reported.

Forecasters identified Vanuatu itself as the area facing the tsunami threat.
