Tui cruise ship is banned from sailing after a storm gust drove it into two container ships in Germany

Tui Cruises' Mein Schiff 3, carrying up to 2,506 passengers and 1,000 crew, was caught by a gust of wind as it departed Bremerhaven on Sunday afternoon and drifted into two moored container ships. The impact tore open several metres of the port side of the larger vessel, MSC Victorine, while the Mein Schiff 3 suffered serious damage to its lifeboats, cranes and hull. Maritime authorities have issued a sailing ban on all three ships, and the planned 20-night Canary Islands voyage has been cancelled.
Bremen Police confirmed no passengers or crew were injured, though investigations by the water police are continuing.
The collision tore open the larger container ship's port side and deformed its container guides, while the smaller vessel sustained only minor damage.
Technical inspectors have ruled the Mein Schiff 3 must go to a shipyard for repairs before it can sail again.
