A Turkish national, believed to be around 47, is fighting for his life after a gunman shot him in the face at the Lounge Bar Plaza restaurant on Malaga's Muelle Uno waterfront promenade at around 10.30pm on Tuesday night. He was found on the ground, covered in blood, with a security guard attending to him, and remains in a critical condition in a Malaga hospital. Two gunmen fled the scene and no arrests have been made.
The victim had travelled from a nearby hotel to the restaurant, where he was sitting with one other man and two women at the time of the attack.
Panicked customers initially mistook the gunshots for firecrackers before fleeing the popular open-air marina area.
Visitor numbers in the area were higher than usual that evening, as the World Cup trophy — won by Spain in July — was on display at the nearby Pompidou Centre.
