A 15-year-old student opened fire with a shotgun outside the Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Turgutlu, Manisa province at around 8am on Tuesday, wounding 11 fellow pupils, two critically. CCTV footage showed the boy walking unhurried through empty streets, checking his weapon, before running from the scene still armed. Justice Minister Akin Gürlek confirmed the teenager was quickly detained; his mother, father and grandfather were also arrested — the grandfather being the shotgun's registered owner.

Investigators are probing allegations the attacker was bullied at the school, as well as how the weapon fell into his hands.

Turkey's interior and education ministers travelled to Manisa after Turkey's vice president ordered immediate inspections.

It is Turkey's third school shooting this year, coming months after tighter gun controls were introduced following April's attacks that killed nine children and a teacher.
