Turning Point USA overruled university security warnings and insisted Kirk speak outdoors before his assassination, damning report finds

A 158-page independent review released Friday reveals that Turning Point USA insisted Charlie Kirk speak in an exposed outdoor courtyard at Utah Valley University on 10 September 2025, despite the university's own staff and police chief raising security concerns weeks before the killing. Utah Valley University conducted no formal security assessment, produced no written event action plan, and ceded critical decisions to Kirk's organisation, which chose the courtyard based on his previous appearances there. The report found UVU's application of its own security policies was "significantly inconsistent" and that only three university officers were initially planned to secure an event attended by thousands.

Turning Point's security supervisor Dan Flood failed to show for a pre-event walkthrough that UVU police chief Jeff Long had specifically texted to arrange.

The outdoor venue left Kirk exposed to sniper Tyler Robinson, who shot him from a rooftop over 400 feet away while Kirk debated students before a crowd of around 3,000 people.

Kirk's widow Erika and his family have already filed a wrongful death notice against UVU, alleging officials made "reckless" decisions that left him vulnerable.
