Two Britons have £50m of assets, including a £1.9m yacht, frozen under a rare 'McMafia' wealth order

The pair, known only as Mr X and Ms X, now have three months to show the fortune was legally earned. If they cannot, prosecutors can seize the lot permanently without a criminal conviction. The High Court granted the order on Friday, only the second since the powers arrived in 2018. Neither has been charged with or convicted of any crime.

The haul includes eight vehicles worth £600,000 and £2.6m sitting in one bank account.

Properties in England, France, Spain and Portugal are also caught up in the freeze.

Prosecutor Adrian Foster: the pair must prove their wealth 'or risk having their assets seized'.
