Two children among five survivors are found alive after a ONE-HOUR Micronesia boat trip left them adrift for three months

Nine people departed from Murilo in Micronesia on 30 July, bound for the short trip to the nearby island of Ruo, when a storm sent their small vessel 3,400 miles off course across the Pacific. Three months on, villagers on Fanning Island in Kiribati spotted the five survivors on Sunday and brought them ashore, where local officials provided medical care.

The US Coast Guard covered 25,000 nautical miles in its search before suspending the operation on 9 August, at which point all nine were presumed dead.

Narruhn has asked Micronesia's president to open diplomatic talks with Kiribati to bring the five survivors home for further treatment.
