Two men are killed on the A49 in Herefordshire after lorry crashes into their car, and a driver is arrested on suspicion of drink-driving

At around 4.10pm on Tuesday, a Vauxhall Astra was involved in a three-vehicle collision on the A49 at Dinmore, between Hereford and Leominster, also involving a Citroën C3 Picasso and a DAF lorry. The car's driver, a man in his 40s, and a passenger in his 20s both died at the scene. An air ambulance, two ambulances and an emergency doctor responded, but advanced life support could not save the driver. A 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

He was subsequently released on bail while West Mercia Police continue their enquiries.

The A49 was kept closed through the night and into Wednesday to allow investigators to examine the scene, after which specialist crews worked to reopen the road.

PC Joshua Wildig is appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage from anyone travelling through the Dinmore area at the time of the crash.
