Two men are re-arrested on suspicion of helping Iranian spies after the RAF Fairford 'terror plot' near a US airbase

Counter-terrorism chief Laurence Taylor described Iranian state involvement in the activity near RAF Fairford on 27 September as 'highly likely'. A 24-year-old UK national and a 25-year-old dual UK-Iranian national, both from Westminster, have been detained under Section 3 of the National Security Act 2023. Each had previously faced arrest on suspicion of terrorism offences before being bailed. Five other men remain on police bail.

Near the base, police discovered three white vans carrying petrol but no explosive devices, with five men inside.

The suspects are reportedly 'witting participants' who knew of Tehran's involvement.

The US Air Force has since pulled all its B-1 bombers out of RAF Fairford.
