Two people have died and a third is missing after a 'mini-hurricane' unleashed record-breaking flooding across Catalonia, with one man killed when a campsite wall collapsed in Tordera and another drowning in a flooded garage in Montornès del Vallès. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez urged locals to avoid all non-essential travel, calling the situation "very complicated". Catalan leader Salvador Illa warned residents: "This is not a joke."

A third victim, a 102-year-old woman, died in Castilla-La Mancha after 140 litres of rain per square metre hit in just three hours.

Storms are now moving north toward Girona, near the French border, where the Ridaura and Daro rivers have burst their banks.

Flights were cancelled, all local trains suspended and a performance of Verdi's 'Aida' at Barcelona's Liceu opera house was called off.
