Two people are shot dead at an after-hours California beach party as police say the shooter could be at large
The shooting happened just after midnight at Moss Landing State Beach in Monterey County, a coastal park that closes at sunset — meaning all four victims were trespassing when gunfire broke out. Commander Andrew Rosas of the Monterey County Sheriff's Office said investigators have no motive, no named suspect, and no information on whether the victims knew each other.
Discarded bottles and red plastic cups left at the scene indicated the gathering was an after-hours Halloween weekend beach party.
North County Fire Protection Chief Jess Cortez confirmed both victims who died had suffered gunshot wounds to the chest.
Sheriff Rosas warned a gunman may still be at large: 'We have simply said we do not feel there is an active threat to the Moss Landing community.'
