Two women sue Matt Gaetz in federal court over sex trafficking scheme that crossed state lines

Two women, identified as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2, have filed a 33-page federal civil lawsuit against former Florida congressman Matt Gaetz, alleging he used money, drugs and travel to sexually exploit them as part of a trafficking scheme between 2017 and 2019. The suit also names Joel Greenberg, who is currently serving an 11-year federal prison sentence for sex trafficking of a minor, and former Republican state lawmaker Christopher Dorworth. Gaetz, 44, responded by saying much of the alleged conduct is false, and appeared to mock the women on X by sharing a Bahamas beach photo of three women in bathing suits.
Jane Doe 1 claims she was paid more than $6,000 and Jane Doe 2 over $4,000 for sexual encounters involving drugs and out-of-state travel.
The lawsuit derailed Gaetz's nomination as Trump's attorney general in 2024 and triggered his resignation from Congress.
Gaetz told the Miami Herald: 'Now I will finally have that chance' to confront his accusers under oath.
