Investigators are trying to establish how a woman who travelled from Uganda to Nigeria contracted the virus and became Nigeria's first Ebola case. Ugandan Health Minister Chris Baryomunsi said she carried two passports, one of them Ugandan, and had family connections in both Uganda and Congo. Switzerland has stated that its diplomat's wife made no visit to Congo. Uganda has had no confirmed cases since it declared its outbreak over on July 28.

Non-essential Congolese travellers will be turned back at the border at their own expense.

Anyone caught crossing into Uganda illegally now faces prosecution.

Even diplomats and UN staff must undergo health screening at Entebbe International Airport.
