UK is to send RAF Typhoons to shield Saudi Arabia from Houthi attacks after a deadly Riyadh airport strike
Defence Secretary Wes Streeting called the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia "absolutely despicable" and confirmed he had authorised additional UK military support. The Typhoons will fly defensive counter-air missions, shielding Saudi cities and infrastructure, but will not be used to strike the Houthis directly. The deployment also includes an Atlas A400M transport aircraft and military advisers. The Riyadh airport strike killed at least 13 people and left more than 300 injured.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham told MPs Britain will "continue to stand with Saudi Arabia".
In September the UK sent an RAF Voyager refuelling aircraft to support Saudi operations.
Last year RAF Typhoons bombed Houthi drone factories just 15 miles from Sanaa.
