Ukrainian drones set Russia's Yaroslavl oil refinery ablaze as Kyiv defies Trump's requests to stop striking oil sites

The Slavneft-YANOS refinery in Yaroslavl — one of Russia's five largest oil-processing plants, with an annual capacity of roughly 15 million metric tons — was struck by a wave of Ukrainian drones in the early hours of Tuesday, with footage showing multiple separate fire zones burning across the industrial site. Yaroslavl Region Governor Mikhail Yevrayev confirmed infrastructure was damaged despite Russian air defences engaging the attackers. Trump had specifically asked President Zelenskyy to halt strikes on Russian oil facilities, but Kyiv has ignored the request.
The raid is the largest drone attack on the Yaroslavl refinery by number of UAVs in 2026, with Moscow claiming 124 drones targeted the site.
Russia claimed to have downed 856 Ukrainian drones overnight in total, as strikes also hit an oil hub in Samara Oblast, sparking a fire there.
The Yaroslavl refinery has now been targeted at least four times in 2026; a September strike forced the plant to halt crude processing entirely.
