Ukraine's longest truce in Kherson is to end tonight as an officer warns Russia used the calm to mass troops

The Kherson ceasefire, brokered with US First Lady Melania Trump's help, was due to expire at 21:00 GMT on Sunday after holding since Tuesday — the longest pause in fighting since Russia's 2022 full-scale invasion. Russian forces used the calm to mass fresh troops, stockpile ammunition and run surveillance drones over Ukrainian positions, a Ukrainian military officer warned. Zelensky said overnight Russian strikes cut power to hundreds of thousands of homes across four regions, killing two people in Vinnytsia, one of them a 13-year-old girl.

Pope Leo urged the truce's end to 'strengthen the desire for dialogue and lead to new concrete peace initiatives'.

Ukraine hit a significant missile fuel manufacturer in Russia's Rostov region, starting fires across four production facilities.
