Ukrainian drones hit Russia's Yaroslavl oil refinery in defiance of Trump as Moscow claims to have downed 856 overnight

The Slavneft-YANOS facility in Yaroslavl — one of Russia's five largest oil refineries, processing some 15 million metric tons of crude a year — was struck by Ukrainian drones in the early hours of Tuesday, with footage showing multiple separate fires burning across the vast industrial complex. Yaroslavl Region Governor Mikhail Yevrayev confirmed refinery infrastructure was damaged despite Russian air defences engaging. Ukraine launched the raid despite Trump pressing Zelenskyy to halt strikes on Russian energy infrastructure. Russia claims it downed 856 Ukrainian drones across the country overnight in total.
The raid, involving reportedly up to 124 drones on Yaroslavl alone by Russian figures, would be the largest drone attack on that refinery by number of UAVs in 2026.
The Yaroslavl refinery has been targeted at least four times this year; a September strike forced it to halt crude processing entirely.
A separate Monday wave of 212 Ukrainian drones also targeted Russia's Samara oil hub, sparking a fire at a key pipeline dispatch station.
