Hodei Ciarra Docampo, 34, was seized in a dawn raid by the elite RAID counter-terror unit at his home in Val d'Issoire, 30 miles from Limoges. He was previously tried for punching an officer at a 2024 protest. Prosecutors are investigating destruction by dangerous means by an organised group, which carries up to 20 years. The listed 1883 building's clock tower collapsed on Saturday.

Limoges mayor Guillaume Guérin: 'By 3.30pm the police had run out of ammunition.'

Guérin is threatening to resign unless Paris funds a Notre-Dame-style rebuild.

Almost 150 weekend rioters are already convicted, with new protests planned for 24 October.
