Union demands restart of FinTrU redundancy talks as 114 Belfast and Derry workers face statutory pay only

Fintech firm FinTrU plans to eliminate 95 roles in Belfast and 19 in Derry. Workers at risk have been informed that their redundancy payments could be limited to the statutory minimum, capped at £751 a week. Previous rounds of cuts at the firm reportedly came with enhanced settlements. Financial Services Union representative Craig Arden has written to chief executive Darragh McCarthy raising 'significant concerns' about the handling of the process.

The company, headquartered at the Gasworks in south Belfast, employs around 1,360 people.

The union is pressing for above-statutory payouts to help workers cope with the cost-of-living crisis.

FinTrU insists it is committed to a 'fair, transparent and meaningful consultation'.
