Unite warns UK fuel supplies could be 'severely' disrupted as 160 North Sea rig workers prepare to strike

Workers at Apache, the oil and gas operator, are set to begin a 24-hour walkout at 6am on Wednesday over a pay dispute. The action is expected to affect platforms tied to the Forties Pipeline System, which handles around 30% of UK oil production. Unite general secretary Sharon Graham called the company's position 'reckless' and the product of 'shameful corporate greed'. A further strike is scheduled for November 4.
Apache maintains that its 4% pay offer is 'fair' for workers who are among the highest earners.
Acas talks are expected ahead of the walkout, though Unite says it is 'not hopeful'.
Wood Group workers on Harbour Energy platforms are planning a separate 48-hour strike.
